Non-Verbal Signs and Signals | Involuntary Physical Reactions | Touch | Grunts, Growls & Moans

Executive Summary

Analysis of non-verbal communication techniques used while fisting. Identification of both standard and personalized cues and signals that bottoms relay as their chutes envelops the hand.

Extraverbal Communications

Extraverbal communication plays several important roles during a fisting session. Some non-verbal signals can replace verbalized details that are often disruptive to the flow of a session. Other involutary signals, such as movement and physiological changes, help direct the actions of both tops and bottoms throughout all stages of penetration. And finally, copulatory vocalizations blend voluntary and involuntary actions to relay pleasure, pain, and passion by both parties, creating positive feedback loops that increase the intensity of play.

VOCABULARY

Extraverbal Communication

  1. (noun) communication that occurs outside of speech; by other means than speaking.
INSERT IMAGES OF THREE TYPES OF COMMUNCITION: VOLUNTARY NON-VERBAL SIGN LAGUAGE, INVOLUNTARY: PHEREMONES, MOVEMENTS; HYBRID: Copulatory Vocalizations.

Intentional Non-verbal Communications

There are multiple ways partners directly communicate non-verbally. Perhaps the most common is the use of hand signals; however, specialized touch and body movement are also effective methods for relaying information. These movements can provide instruction, indicate ongoing consent, and validate techniques in use.

Hand Signals

In face-to-face experiences, many bottoms use their hands to direct movement. Several of these signals are intuitive and do not need clarification, while others may need to be explained at the onset of the session. Regardless, it is often important to eliminate any assumptions by clarifying what your specific signals mean.

*^*
Forward | Deeper

Making a 'Come Here!' movement with an open hand instructs the top to continue forward and go deeper into the fist chute.

The speed of the signal can indicate the pace of progression or the amount of pressure to be applied.

Stop
Stop | Pause

Presenting the hand with the palm-out and finger raised denotes stop and hold at the current position.

When the bottom is ready, he will indicate how to proceed further (verbally or with other hand signals).

Reverse/Pull Back
Retract | Pull Back

Pulling the fingers forward while in the stop/hold position indicates the top should pull back gently until otherwise directed.

Usually this signal does not mean pull out completely, as that command is almost always verbalized.

*^*
Twist

Twisting the fist clockwise or counter-clockwise means the top should halt forward progression in favor of coarser actions that stimulate the walls of the fist chute.

This can be combined with arm movement to indicate simultaneous forward progression or retraction. This is not a universal sign, you may need to explain what it means to your play partner.

*^*
Piston

Moving the arm with back and forth at various speeds and lengths signals pistoning or pummeling the fist chute.

Like twisting, this is not a universal hand signal. Partners should discuss the specific meaning of the signal. For example, does it mean punch fisting with total hand extraction or is it something less extreme?

Touch

Apart from it's ability to relax and comfort the bottom, touch can be a powerful tool for communication. Actions such as handholding, squeezing, caressing, or quick palpation can indicate discomfort or pleasure, depending on the context of other signals being relayed.

The movement of the free hand of a top sends subconscious messages to the bottom. Spefic, direct personal touch indicates their level of engagement.

Bottoms can also use direct touch with the top to relay instruction. Partners can pre-define certain kinds of touch to indicate specific actions. Examples include:

  • Instructive Taps — A single-tap often indicates stop, but multiple-taps can indicate continue, go faster, or go deeper.
  • Rhythmic Taps — A consistent set of taps can synchronize internal rhythms between participants.
  • Definitive Strokes — using a finger to stroke the arm of top can indicate levels of anxiety and but also instruction. The pace and direction can indicate what should be replicated inside the hole.

Mixed Signals

Some non-verbal communication is a combination of voluntary and involuntary responses.

Eye Contact

'Where, when, and how we look at others are all part of the phenomenon of eye gaze, one of our most important and primitive means of communication. Gaze plays a crucial role in conversation. Looking at another person is a way of getting feedback on particular points. It is also used as a synchronizing signal.[1]

While fisting, people can communicate subconsciously via eye contact by means of pupil dialation, blinking, squinting, and opening/closing eyes.

  • Pupil Dialation — Pupil dialation indicates sexual arousal on part of both the Top and Bottom. Large pupils in a bottom usually increases the level of attraction by the top.
  • Gazing — Gazing and averting gaze can indicate the following messages: invitation into personal space (including the fist chute), determinination of power roles and power relinquishments, and trust alignment through calmning persuasion.
  • Blinking — Increased blinking is a sign of attraction and synchronized blinking indicates trust between partners. Decreased blink rates by the bottom indicates control over body functions (thus signaling capacity for deeper penetration).

How to Spot Sexual Attraction in Eyes[2]

Copulatory Vocalizations

Copulatory vocalizations often accompany sexual activity including fisting. Sexologists postulate multiple evolutionary reasons for them, such as conveying information and internal synchronizing your central arousal systems (movement, smell, touch, sound). Essentially we make sounds that drive us to orgasm—and hopefully—orgasm together.

These vocalizations are typically non-verbal sounds such as grunts and growls, but some words or linguistic phrases are also part of this sexual banter. For example, Oh Yeah, God, Fuck Me, and Deeper make little cognitive or contextual sense when already fucking or fisting at the armpit, but their utterance stimulates the scene.

With regular ff-Buds, these sounds can replace other non-verbal communication forms, especially when fisting in positions that prevent face-to-face contact. With new partners and anonymous fisting, these vocalizations direct each other on techniques and practices to increase pleasure.
